About Us
Beaumont Station Although farmed much earlier, Beaumont was one of the first recorded leases to be officially purchased in Southland in 1857 and was then around 58,000 acres. In those early days there were little or no fences and boundary riders were employed to keep the sheep within the station boundaries. Flecks Hut was named after one such Irishman, who lived there with his family in the mid 1800's.
Today Beaumont is approximately 18,000 acres of predominately rolling to steep hill country, with some cultivated pasture. Stock numbers fluctuate seasonally and can change from year to year depending on outside influences, such as weather and prices. However, the station generally winters around 12,000 sheep, 800 Hereford cattle and 100 Red Deer.
The Minty Family The Minty family have managed and owned Beaumont Station since 1982. Struan comes from a farming family which extends for 4 generations since migrating from Scotland. Truly a family business, 5 members work either full, or part-time on the property. "Passionate about farming; we see it not just as a business, but a way of life". The tourism aspect of the business is now becoming well established and has been operating for more than 5 more years. View our visitors comments.
